Indian Bus Falls into Ganges River Killing 26 People.

A private tour bus carrying 45 Hindu pilgrims was traveling in northern India when it plunged into the Ganges River, killing 26 passengers onboard.

Police say the driver lost control of the bus while trying to pass a truck on its route from Badrinath to the holy city of Rishikesk. Rescuers worked for over four hours last Tuesday pulling bodies from the wreckage of the bus after the bus accident.

Chief Minister from the state of Uttarakhand Vijay Bahuguna announced that victims’ families would receive 100,000 rupees ($1800) in compensation and that investigations into the cause of the fatal bus accident are ongoing.
