The first study suggests that the Earth\u2019s closeness to the moon at the time the ship sank may have resulted in record tides that help to explain why there was so much ice on the journey, including of course, the fatal iceberg.<\/strong> The study shows that the Earth was closer to the moon at that time than it had been in the previous 1,000 years. The second theory suggests that the icy waters created a mirage which hid icebergs from lookouts and did not allow for a nearby ship to see the Titanic clearly, which resulted in the delay of rescue crews.<\/p>\n
