A poorly aimed bullet mistakenly struck Rebello in the head.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rebello died from her injuries.\u00a0 Smith was also shot seven times, and he died from his injuries as well.<\/p>\n<p>Rebello\u2019s family filed the wrongful death lawsuit on May 16, 2014, naming Nassau County and the Nassau County Policy Department as defendants.\u00a0 <strong>The suit alleges that the Nassau County police officers who responded to the home invasion &#8220;recklessly and unnecessarily&#8221; endangered Rebello&#8217;s life.
