According to local authorities, the death is the first known fatality in the 143-year history of the San Francisco Yacht Club.<\/p>\n

Yacht officials say that it is typical for racing conditions to be rough during the race every year. According to authorities, the wrongful death accident<\/a> occurred when the yacht was hit broadside by a particularly large wave. The impact sent some of the crew members overboard. As the yacht was turning to retrieve the people who were sent overboard, a second wave struck, and the remaining crew members were also sent overboard. The yacht then went aground.<\/p>\n
