Man Commits Suicide Inside Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral.

According to local authorities in Paris, France, a man committed suicide by shooting himself in the head inside the famous Notre Dame Cathedral on Tuesday May 21. The wrongful death occurred after the man put a letter on the church’s altar.

Monsignor Patrick Jacquin, Notre Dame’s rector, said that the incident was extremely dramatic and shocking, and that this marks the first suicide taking place inside the landmark in decades.

Jacquin said that a few people over the years have attempted suicide by jumping from the cathedral’s twin towers, but noted that he had never heard of someone committing suicide inside the cathedral.

Police evacuated roughly 1,500 worshipers and tourists out of the cathedral following the shooting. Notre Dame reopened later in the evening of the same day, when a prayer service was held for the man who committed suicide and other struggling souls.

The suicide marks the second in less than a week in Paris. Last week, a man shot himself at a private Catholic school in front of a group of school children.

French officials are currently investigating the incident inside the Notre Dame Cathedral. The identity of the man has not been confirmed at this time.
