Jury Selected for Michael Jackson’s Wrongful Death Trial.

The family of Michael Jackson filed a wrongful death lawsuit against AEG, the entertainment company that was promoting the concerts that Jackson was preparing for at the time of his death.  Last week, a jury was selected for the wrongful death trial, and opening statements in the trial are expected to begin next week.

The lawsuit was filed by Jackson’s mother and his three children, and it alleges that AEG is liable for Jackson’s death in 2009.

The lawsuit alleges that AEG was negligent in its hiring of Dr. Conrad Murray, who was convicted in 2011 of involuntary manslaughter for giving Jackson a fatal dose of an anesthetic drug.

It is expected that the wrongful death complaint will last many weeks, and the plaintiff is seeking millions of dollars in wrongful death damages.

Massive Earthquake Rocks Iran and Pakistan With at Least 38 Dead.

A powerful earthquake caused destruction and death in Iran and Pakistan on Tuesday April 16, at approximately 3:44 PM local time (ET 6:44 AM).

The United States Geological Survey (“USGS”) rated the earthquake at a 7.8 on the Richter scale, while the European-Mediterranean Seismological Agency rated the earthquake a bit lower at 7.5 on the Richter scale. Both agencies estimate that the earthquake lasted approximately 40 seconds, with severe after tremors. Under either reading, this earthquake was powerful enough to cause serious destruction in the region.

The epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 50 miles east of the Iranian city of Khash. Pakistan mobilized its military to provide a rapid response to the Baluchistan region of the country. The emergency responders found collapsed schools, shops and even governmental building in various cities across the region.

According to various reports, a total of 38 wrongful deaths have already been confirmed. Officials in both Iran and Pakistan fear that many more casualties are likely to be found in the coming days, as rubble from collapsed buildings is cleared away. The number of people confirmed to be injured in the quake is already close to 200.

The USGS has issued a statement concerning the earthquake, in which the severe impact area is described as “thinly populated.” That area, however, is home to at least 400,000 people, while 1.7 million more people live in an area that was strongly affected by the earthquake.

Former NBA Player Javaris Crittenton Indicted For Murder.

Basketball fans will remember Javaris Crittenton from his infamous personal dispute with then- Washington Wizards teammate Gilbert Arenas inside the team’s locker room back during the 2009-2010 NBA season. This past Tuesday, however, Crittenton has seemingly gotten himself into deeper trouble after being indicted on murder and gang-related charges in Atlanta, Georgia.

Crittenton, 25, and his cousin, Douglas Gamble, were charged in a 12-count indictment by a Fulton County grand jury over the death of an Atlanta woman, Julian Jones, and the attempted murder of another man.

According to police, Crittenton shot and killed Jones while she was walking with a group of people back in August 2011. Authorities say that Crittenton then attempted to shoot and kill another man. The shootings are believed to be a gang-type retaliation after Crittenton was robbed of $50,000 in jewelry.

Crittenton, a native of Atlanta, played guard for Georgia Tech before being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007. He was suspended for 38 games for pulling a gun on teammate Gilbert Arenas while playing for the Washington Wizards during the 2009-10 season. Crittenton received probation for the incident after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge.

A trial date for the murder and gang charges against Crittenton has not yet been set.
