A lawsuit filed by the family of Zeke Upshaw, a professional basketball player playing for a G league affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, claims that the team’s medical staff acted negligently when they did not provide swift and proper medical attention after Zeke collapsed on the floor during a game. According to the family’s attorney, Upshaw was on the ground for a full four minutes before he received any kind of CPR or anything else to clear his airway. The suit further states that the lead team physician left the facility before the game ended, and thus was not available when Upshaw collapsed. Upshaw died two days later. His family is being represented by attorneys Robert Hilliard and Ben Crump of Hilliard & Shadowen LLP of Austin, Texas.

Football Helmet Manufacturers The Target Of Lawsuit After Deceased Ohio Kid Found To Have CTE.

As new research involving the dangers of American football continue to surface, companies responsible for creating the equipment football players use to protect themselves must keep up with the data and adjust their products. When they fail to do so, serious and potentially fatal brain damage can result. In such a situation, it may be wise to contact an expert wrongful death attorney or product liability attorney at 617-787-3700.

Cody Hamblin had been playing tackle football since he was 8 years old when, while fishing with his grandpa, he suffered a seizure and fell into the water, drowning. Autopsy reports indicate the Hamblin had advanced CTE, a degenerative brain condition that results from sustaining a large number of concussions. For Hamblin’s family, the connection was clear: tackle football had led Cody to suffer multiple concussions, which led to his developing CTE.

While Hamblin’s parents feel responsible for even letting him play in the first place, they have also suggested that the companies that manufacture the helmets must take responsibility. Accordingly, Hamblin’s father has filed a lawsuit against Riddell Sports Group, who is yet to respond to the allegations. The suit alleges fraud, negligence, and wrongful death. Hamblin is being represented by Girardi/Keese, of Los Angeles California.

Family Of Murdered Man Goes After Facebook For Failing To Ascertain That Killer Was A Threat.

As many of us are aware, social media giant Facebook has access to millions of users’ data. While this is extremely troubling, it also presents an opportunity for Facebook to contact authorities when they believe something horrible, such as a shooting, might occur. When such an occurrence did indeed come to pass, the shooter, Steve Stephens, broadcast the episode on “Facebook Live” for all to see.

Now, the family of one of the victims of the shooting is suing Facebook for negligence, claiming that Facebook had sufficient access to Stephens’s data that they should have known that the shooting would occur, and could have stopped it. Robert Goodwin was 74 when he was killed by Stephens. The suit has named multiple defendants, including companies used by Facebook for the purposes of data collection.
