Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Officers Involved In Fatal Shooting.

While no amount of money will ever be enough to adequately compensate the grieving loved one of a person who has died due to the negligence of another, the immediate financial burdens in the aftermath of a loved one’s death may be too much to overcome without financial compensation. A wrongful death lawyer may be the only option for those families to begin recovering. For expert help, contact one of the experienced wrongful death lawyers at the Law Offices of Gilbert R. Hoy, Jr. and Affiliates to discuss what legal remedies you may be entitled to.

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the family of a Green Bay, Wisconsin man killed during a 2015 officer-involved shooting. The lawsuit was filed against the City of Green Bay, former Police Chief Tom Molitor, Officer Matthew Dunn, Officer Brian Krueger, and ten other officers with the department. Joseph Biegert was shot and killed by police officers after they responded to a welfare check. According to the Department Of Criminal Investigation report, Mr. Biegert stabbed a responding officer and that’s when officers shot and killed him.

Mr. Biegert was found to have antidepressants and amphetamines in his system. The family attorney said Mr. Biegert was known by the Green Bay Police Department to have a mental illness, was never violent during previous welfare checks at his apartment and that the responding officers did not have mental health crisis intervention training, something the family would like to see come out of this suit. This incident was investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation which concluded that the involved Green Bay Police Department officers acted appropriately.
