Police Procedures on Chasing Bicycles Questioned After Man Dies in Chase.

Civil rights advocates have called on the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to reexamine its procedures for chasing suspects on bicycles.

The call for action is in response to a death early Monday morning. At around 1:25 AM, officers were chasing 45 year-old Alfonso Cerda, who was on a bicycle. Police believed that he had a handgun. The bicycle chase ended when Cerda crashed his bicycle into a patrol car and was injured.

Police did not find a handgun, and Cerda later died from his personal injuries.

The Inglewood, CA Police Department is investigating the wrongful death bicycle accident.
